The year is again flying away, with winter gone and the sun starting to pick in we know spring is here. But like many other places in the world I’m sure, Belgium is still not that hot. Still no cold weather should ever mean you can’t follow trends or dress for the season. It is all about focusing on the details and mixing and matching a few trends to make them fit into your more cozy wardrobe.
A great idea is to keep it simple and add special details. Styling a black and white outfit is no hard task, but making it special is. What you need to do for this season is choose this spring’s trends and combine them in black and white. To make this a statement look you focus then on prints, textures, fabrics and details.
To style this trend, I teamed up with blogger Zoë Fellows . We created a lookbook on how we would style this trend. All her outfit details on her blog. Everything on how I styled it, what I wore and which spring trends I chose to use is explained under the video.
2017’s Cold-proof Spring trends
A-lined Longer Skirts
This year isn’t about short mini-skirts. The trends lean more towards longer skirts, high-waisted or A-lined. A very nice trend, specially if it’s a bit colder or if you are looking for a more feminine touch. The length of the skirt is of course something we are not that used to, but longer skirts are making their appearance more and more in the runways. If you want to know a little secret, those long flowered, flowy dresses our grandmother’s used to wear in summer are going to be huge this year!
Velvet and Pied De Poule
Velvet has been definitely been a thing and will stay that way even for next fall and winter. Of course this is a warmer trend and as the spring fades into summer this fabric will be substituted by embroidery. Still, it is completely on trend until it goes a few degrees higher. Everything Chanel is going to be everywhere the upcoming seasons, and it is for sure something you need to have in your closet. One of the prints you’ll be seeing a lot beside tweed is Pied De Poule. In this case perfect because it’s black and white.
High-waisted pants and statement belts
High-waisted everything I should say. This seasons will be filled with oversized, deconstructed and statement tops which are always combined with high-waisted pants. Yet the newest trend are the statement belts. This are the pieces that will make an outfit special, specially if it’s a black and white one.
